Freet are a UK based barefoot shoe brand designed for outdoor activities. Created in 2011 by Andrew and Sarah Jackson, they design all their shoes from their home (pictured here) in Richmond, Yorkshire and test them out in the wilds of the Yorkshire Dales. We are proud to be their only bricks and mortar store in the UK
Having tried several different barefoot brands we know that Freet are unrivalled in comfort. They have the widest toe box allowing toes to splay and the roomiest fit for that super barefoot feel. They are particularly comfortable for those that have square feet.
A thin 2mm flexible midsole allows all their shoes to be rolled up into a ball, offering a 360 degree flex over lots of different surfaces. A totally flat sole without a heel means our feet can be in full contact with the ground offering improved balance and posture and the ability to move our feet as nature intended.
Most models come with a 3cm insole providing just the right amount of cushioning to protect our feet, but not too much, so we still feel the ground. If just transitioning to barefoot or wanting some extra cushioning for hard surfaces a 6mm insole is available to purchase separately.
Freets can have 3 different outsoles that offer different grips. The Multigrip is durable and best for pavement. The GripPlus offers 2mm lugs for trail use and the new HillGrip has deeper 4mm lugs for better traction on muddier or steeper ground.
We feel that Freet’s ethics are very much in line with ours at The Walking Hub. Their mission is to provide footwear that allows feet to operate naturally while maintaining ethical manufacturing standards and a commitment to the environment.
While created in the UK their shoes are made in China. However, Andrew works very closely with the factory and maintains strict EU requirements on safety and environmental issues with regards to materials used and working conditions.
Many of their shoes are vegan and they continue to research and develop environmentally-kind materials. We particularly love their MicroF for its water resistance , their CoffeeYarn made from wasted coffee grounds and the BottleYarn made from recycled plastic bottles.
An old favourite. Water resistant and protective for winter walking without compromising on that barefoot feel. Vegan. GripPlus outsole for easy trails.
A new model very similar to the Mudee but slightly higher on the ankle, offering a bit more support and the HillGrip outsole making it the best boot for steeper and muddier terrain. Also weather resistant and vegan.
The perfect trail shoe for walking or running. Vegan, made from recycled bottles and featuring the HillGrip outsole for extra traction.
Freet’s most minimalist shoe. Slips on and feels more like a sock. Vegan, made from from recycled coffee grounds and has the MultiGrip sole which is more durable for hard surfaces. The perfect all-round shoe for both inside and outside recreational use.
