Handmade Barefoot Sandals from Yorkshire
Wildsole is a small, independent British company creating barefoot adventure sandals by hand in Yorkshire.
We’ve been excited about Wildsole for quite some time. Ali visited the team at their farm in Yorkshire, where she got to see behind the scenes and learn how Wildsoles are made from scratch in their own workshop and warehouse. She even got to make her very own pair – which gave her a real appreciation for the thought, skill and hands-on craftsmanship that goes into every sandal.
Ever since that visit, we’ve been looking forward to bringing Wildsole to the Barefoot Shoe Box, so we’re absolutely delighted that they’re finally here!
Wildsole was founded by four friends who shared an interest in living and moving more naturally. Unable to find the kind of minimal barefoot running sandal they wanted being made here in the UK, they decided to create their own.
Sustainability is an important part of the Wildsole ethos. Every pair is handmade in Yorkshire using animal-friendly materials, with an emphasis on sourcing locally wherever possible. Their sandals are sent in recycled, plastic-free packaging, and the company continues to explore ways of reducing waste and making use of existing materials – including turning reclaimed Sheffield climbing ropes into sandal straps.
But what we particularly love is that Wildsoles are designed to be proper adventure sandals. Thin, flat and flexible, they allow your feet to move naturally and feel the ground beneath them, while secure adjustable straps mean the sandal moves with your foot rather than your toes having to grip to keep it on.
The range includes everything from ultra-minimal 4mm soles through to more rugged Vibram soles designed for demanding terrain, making Wildsoles equally at home on an everyday walk, a wild swim, a trail run or a day in the hills.
British made, thoughtfully produced, wonderfully minimal and created by a small team who genuinely care about what they are making – Wildsole feels very much at home at the Barefoot Shoe Box.
